Hot Meals Serves Firefighters in Custer County

When a complex fire broke around Broken Bow in February, 2025, Hot Meals USA was called to serve. We provided three hot meals a day for 4 days, totaling approximately 1625 meals.

Building a warehouse center in Kearney

Thank you to Gary robinson, jr at NTV News for sharing the story of our plans to build our headquarters in Kearney to serve our area!

Since being developed in 2017, our disaster response nonprofit organization has grown, and we now have a need for a headquarters. We have secured approximately five acres of land on the east side of Kearney, Nebraska, which will be the location of our new building. This building will house our offices, conference room, industrial kitchen, and trailer and pickup storage and work space; as well as a cooler, freezer, and pantry to store food. This building will allow us to streamline our operations, but more importantly support the Kearney community, as well as counties in Nebraska. Our ability to store large quantities of food will allow us to distribute food to food pantries, increasing their current service to citizens in need of food.

We have received about 45% of the funds needed to complete the headquarters, so we will be embarking on fundraising in the near future.

Christmas Meals to Families in Need

On Christmas Day, Hot Meals USA planned to serve meals to the citizens of Kearney, as well as medical personnel and first responders working that day. We had volunteers come to Mom and Dad's Barbecue on Christmas Eve to prepare the food that was delivered or picked up on Christmas Day.

Helping Victims of Hurricane Helene

After Hurricane Helene devastated the southeastern United States, Hot Meals USA responded. We communicated with a Rotarian in Valdosta, Georgia, and we were invited to provide meals to their community. After gathering supplies and food from Cash-Wa in Kearney, Nebraska, we drove two days to Georgia, and began serving three hot meals on Friday, October 4th. We provided approximately 16,000 meals over five days before returning back to Nebraska.

One of the biggest Thanksgiving meal events hosted by Kearney Area Concerned Citizens got cancelled because of COVID-19, and Hot Meals USA couldn’t stand by and let thousands of people sit at home without a meal.

Thank you to KHAS for sharing the story of the teamwork between Hot Meals USA and local first responders to ensure the residents of Kearney, Nebraska had food to eat.

When COVID-19 affected Central Nebraska, Hot Meals USA began feeding the citizens of the community. Meals were available in the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) parking lot for pick up, and volunteers and first responders worked together to deliver meals to those people unable to pick them up.
